Every carbon credit funds work already underway. Nature-based credits protect and restore forests, seagrass and soils. Science-backed credits capture methane, destroy refrigerants and keep other gases out of the air. Each project below shows what that work looks like.
Projects are certified under Gold Standard, Verra or Rainbow Standard.
What the mechanisms mean
- Avoidance
- Prevents emissions that would otherwise happen, for example by replacing fossil-fuel power or destroying potent gases.
- Removal
- Takes carbon out of the atmosphere and stores it, for example in soil or biochar.
- Conservation
- Protects an ecosystem that already stores carbon, such as a seagrass meadow.
- Avoidance & removal
- Does both, for example hempcrete that replaces conventional building materials and stores carbon.
- Removal & reduction
- Plastic projects that collect and recycle plastic waste, certified under Verra’s Plastic Program. These earn plastic credits, not carbon credits.
